Despite the push for a world of electrified vehicles, traditional and other alternative energy sources will remain key contributors of the future mobility landscape. Internal combustion engines may still find use on 70% of light-duty vehicles in 2030. Important developments in fuel economy, emissions, fuel tanks and related components will as a result continue for traditional and hybrid vehicles. Innovations and technology developments in biofuels, natural gas and hydrogen will provide viable options for transportation and will remain important considerations for future product mixes.
ITB’s annual 2022 conference brought 190+ global experts together over two days to discuss the challenges and advancements related to both traditional liquid fuels and gaseous fuels including hydrogen for all mobility segments. A single track of 13 presentations on day one treated attendees to high level discussions and excellent networking opportunities with customers and clients. Highlights included a keynote address from the University of California, Davis discussing Low Carbon Fuel Standards (performance, future and policy), and an open round table discussion focused on the enablement of developments in a challenging investment environment. Here, fuel systems experts from Ford Motor Company (former), General Motors, Kautex Textron, Plastic Omnium, and Stellantis provided their insights into industry challenges, developments, and engineering considerations for future product mixes.
The conference day was filled with lively business discussions and an evening reception allowed the conversations to continue in a relaxing environment.
Day 2 consisted of nine presentations in three sessions focused on hydrogen and CNG topics. GTI Energy provided a keynote which addressed the carbon intensity of hydrogen with comments on the goal of defining protocols and practices for measuring H2 life cycle emissions.
So What Does the Future Hold?
Planning for our 2023 Fuel Systems for Mobility conference on March 1 and 2, 2023 in Novi, Michigan is already underway.
